Guest Post with Cari Quinn & Giveaway!
Please welcome a Forbidden favorite, Cari Quinn! Not only has she come to TFB with some fabulous gifts for three lucky commenters, but she has also given us a great conversation starter for Friday!! :)
~*~*~*~
What rings your bells?
First of all, I want to thank the wonderful ladies at The Forbidden Bookshelf for having me here today. Tanya is one of the most lovely people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and I absolutely love visiting with all of you here!
As an author, I try to keep a balance between the stories I feel compelled to tell and my audience for them. If I wanted to write about pink monkeys who dress up like Elvis, yes, there just might be readers for that sort of book, but I’m not sure I could continue coming up with stories in that vein to entertain them.
On the other hand, I love erotic romance. I fell into this segment of my career by accident when a former CP of mine mentioned that she thought my writing was gravitating that way naturally, so why not give it a try? I’m so glad I did! Erotic romance feeds my soul in a way that goes way beyond sex. I often like to explore darker themes in my work and I feel sex that’s a little more dirty and raw somehow seems to fit those sorts of scenarios. Plus…sex is fun! How can reading about something so awesome ever be anything but a rockin’ good time?
Even so, we all have our personal preferences. For example…there’s something about a man coming up on a woman (or another man) from behind that really does it for me. That inherent sense of vulnerability just from having your back turned to another allows for all sorts of delicious possibilities. If we’re talking tropes, I love many of them. Friends to lovers is definitely a favorite, but for sheer sexy, decadent eroticism, my favorite is boss and employee. That subtle—and sometimes not so subtle—power struggle really works for me.
Now it’s your turn! What rings your bells as a reader? Tropes, kinds of characters, sexual positions…bring it on! Two commenters will win their choice of my ebooks (any of them, including next week’s upcoming Ellora’s Cave release, Heart Signs) and a third person will win a signed print copy of my erotic contemporary romance, Insatiable (it’s a friends to lovers story!) Open internationally for the ebooks and United States only for the print book.
Can’t wait to chat with all of you! And one more hug for my girl, Tanya!

Personally, I love May/December romances where the woman is older. I'm also a total sucker for physically injured or damaged heros and heroines - you know they've suffered and so the HEA (or HFN) is that much sweeter.

"there’s something about a man coming up on a woman (or another man) from behind that really does it for me." ME TOO!

I also think that a man coming up to a woman from behind them, wrapping their arms around her waistband whispering/growling something sexy in her ear is the most arousing type of interaction to me. And when written well, I can actually feel it and imagine the shivers down my spine. Oh, scheme, where was I? LOL
I would love to win one of your books,

I too love it when a man comes up behind a woman, and it's those little poofs of breath that caress the neck with the whisper of words or a purr from his throat that gets the blood steaming. I love your stories, and always look forward to them. *s*

I like the Friends to lovers as well, whether it be m/f or m/m or f/f. My favorite to read is m/m/f stories.

I would love to read some erotic novels. I think I would enjoy them very much. I like a man coming up from behind me pulling me against him and kissing my neck and feel his breath on my neck and him whispering in my ears. I would love to read your stories. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
I really like most things, but I guess you could say that friends to lovers rings my bell. Love your books. Thanks for the giveaway.

I love second chance romances. For whatever reason they couldn't be together when they were younger. Now they are older, hopefully wiser and sometimes a little broken. I think the second chance HEAs are sweeter. As for the naughty side? I always like really dominant heroes with a dirty mouth.

I do love erotic novels. I love friends to lovers books of all kinds, menages, BDSM books, and so much more. I love a variety of books but they all tend to have strong alpha males.

Great post and comments. I really enjoy reading edgier romances these days. Friends to lovers are always favorites, with a bit of bdsm or menage to spice things up.

My favorite trope is adversaries to lovers (Much Ado About Nothing is my fav classic).

I have to admit that the BDSM genre has really kept me captivated as of late....and a good old menage is pretty darn hot as well....
I like the tortured hero and the prickly, intelligent heroine. I really enjoy the dom/sub stories. And, the person who appears to be one thing on the outside but turns out to be something completely different when they find their one perfect match. **Sigh**
What rings my bell is a story that builds over time. I don't like the stories where the sex almost starts right from the gate. I love to see the heat build between the characters and then things explode between them. It can be erotic, sensual, it might involve BDSM or spanking. It can be m/m, m/f, menage, etc. As long as that heat comes first.

I'm really into non-con right now though I enjoy most variations of BDSM stories. I love the power exchange and huge amounts of trust involved between the characters in that genre.

Menage just floats my boat right now.

Oooo great question. For me, it's the subtle things a man does to take charge, to dominate without being overwhelming, like lightly grip my hair at the roots to control my head, or wrapping his arms around my shoulders to mimic bondage. I like the promise or threat of domination, not necessarily the rough stuff. =)
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

Hi Cari!
I have to agree with your assessment and fav's on tropes, kinds of characters, and sexual positions! I think we have great taste:)

I enjoy friends-to-lovers stories, BDSM, and almost anything with a strong, dominant hero and a heroine confident enough to take him on.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I think one of my favorites is the enemies to lovers theme. There's usually so much tension and they realize that they've been wrong all along, or not completely right anyway. Those stories have such rocky beginnings but I always enjoy when it works out to a great HEA.

Hmmmmm What rings your bells as a reader?
I LOVE Erotic M/F/M Menage Books where there's take charge Alpha Males, Muscled & Ripped that will do ANYTHING for their Lady...& all involved are Sooo Hot to see some ManLove action going on. Mmmmmm know THAT rings "My" Bells! LOL ;) But I'm just sooooo Naughty ;)

So many things ring my bell (lol)... well lets see, in books it's probably the foreplay cause honestly who really gets as much foreplay as they want?
Its probably more the BDSM element for me when the Master/Dom/Domme takes their time bringing their servant/sub pleasure. The fact they make them wait to have an orgasm but bring them so close so many times.
Granted if someone did that to me in RL I'd probably kill them (lol) cause I'm not a patient person. But when its being done to someone else and you finally get to experience that point where they go over it's just HOT!!!

Thanks so much for all the comments! I'm sorry it took me a few days to reply but I read them all and love hearing what works for all of you. Believe me, I'm taking notes, LOL. The next time I return here (if the lovely Tanya and Diana will have me back) I think I'll discuss BDSM, because as a reader and writer I'm starting to explore it and I want to delve more into the psychology behind it.
Good luck to everyone and I really appreciate all your responses! Happy reading! :)
