Interview with Crystal Jordan and Giveaway (US)
The Forbidden Bookshelf is pleased to welcome Crystal Jordan to the Para-Erotica event!
How would you describe yourself using five words only?
Quirky, funny, chatty, smart, curly-haired (this is totally one word!)
What was your inspiration behind the Prowl series?
The Prowl series was inspired by the fact that I grew up in the California Bay Area, and I thought--what if there were shifters among us, right in the city (San Francisco), who hid in plane sight? What if they were all sexy Panthers? What if they had to band together in Prides to stay alive and had to hope they found a mate or else worry about going extinct? What levels of danger would that add to every day living? ON THE PROWL begins to explore that, introducing you to the new Pride leader in North America and how he struggles to accept that fate has mated him to a non-shifter (a Panther who can't shift or have babies)? I also show you that there's one Pride on every continent and PROWL THE NIGHT shows you more of those Prides. We bring in characters from Asia, Australia, Europe, and Africa. We travel to Spain and see the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona. All the while, we have the contentious Pride politics to deal with on the way to finding love. Oh, and don't forget the naughty sex along the way.
If you could trade places with a character in one of your books, who would it be and why?
Probably Chloe in EMBRACE THE NIGHT. I mean, hello? Hot warlock detective. You get the paranormal hottie, the sexy cop, and smokin' magical spells he can cast in bed. Also? He's a good man who'd lay down his life for the people he loves. I'll take two, thanks.
How do you get yourself in the right frame of mind to write those blush-worthy, heart-pumping sex scenes?
I have a mix on my iPod that's just labeled "Sex Mix." This is my soundtrack for writing naughty love scenes, and it tends to be heart-pounding rock that's just as sexy and explicit as my love scenes. It totally gets me in the right head space. A few favorites in the mix that I can name off-hand would be "Oh My God" by Pink (featuring Peaches), "Most Girls" by Pink, "Animals" by Nickelback, "S.E.X." by Nickelback, "Bad Girlfriend" by Theory of a Deadman, "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails (also known as "I Want to Fuck You Like an Animal"). You get the idea.
Cast your vote! Who makes the sexiest hero -- a vampire, were, shifter, warlock, or other -- and why?
All of the above! Why would I ever choose? Especially when it comes to the bed, they all bring their own bag of tricks. Shifters have that animalistic edge that's just hot; warlocks have the sex spells; vampires have the neck biting that can just curl your toes. Every paranormal hero has something. I'll take one of each, no need to pick!
Other than writing, what are some of your passions in life?
Well, I love to read, which is one of the prerequisites for being a writer. Plus, I'm a librarian in real life. I like books, obviously. I've also recently taken up knitting. I know it sounds so old maid-ish, but I've made some really cool hats and scarves. I'm going to try some fingerless gloves soon for a steampunk costume I'll use during the annual Smutketeers photo shoot (that's a writer's group blog I belong to, so fun!)

I have always been hooked on panther shifers ever since I saw The Vampire Circus. The movie featured a vampire who shifted into a beautiful black panther.

I like big cats, no matter which one it is. I have read stories with all sort but I think that black panthers work the best. Somehow orange colouring is too attention getting for the urban shifter.

Good question because each big cat has a different feel. I think for female characters I like the smaller sleeker cats-ocelots, jags and for male characters I like the larger more powerful cats-tigers and lions.

Great interview. I am new to your books but the ones I have read I have loved. I love Cat Shifters and Fav would depend on my mood. White Tiger for that hot steamy mood. Panther to that sexy seductive mood and Lion for that hot but very protective mood.

I love panthers they are slick and just so pretty. I was lucky was I was a kid, one of my moms friends ran the big cats dept. Of The SD Zoo and I got to ay with the baby big cats - it was amazing and boy are they strong.

I love all of them..
I love most felines. I do find the tiger a sexy one. I find the panther particularly appealing. I have to say, the Ocelot is very cute. I find the Caracal amusing with their big ears and little tuffs from it. Jaguars are kind of exotic, aren't they? Then again, a saber-tooth tiger would be pretty cool.

Hi Crystal! great interview! I like all kinds ! Sort of partial to panthers and white tigers though by just a tiny bit. Something about those two types (the cats themselves) seem to draw me in a bit more than the others.
