Interview with Bronwyn Green and International Giveaway
The Forbidden Bookshelf is pleased to welcome Bronwyn Green!
Please tell us a little about your background.
Let's see, I'm married to a guy who's perfect for me - we have two hilarious and awesome teenage boys and five fairly psychotic cats. We live in the gorgeous state of Michigan where I'm surrounded by family and many of my dearest friends. In addition to writing, I also edit for an e-press and tutor the occasional stray high school student. I also love to craft - sewing, pottery, cross stitch, you name it and I'm there. My life is a busy and even a little crazy at times, but I pretty much feel like I'm the luckiest person in the world.
How would you describe yourself using five words only?
Ha! Wait...does that count? I'm gonna pretend it doesn't. Quirky, distract-able, happy, busy and creative.
What was your inspiration behind WITCH WAY: IMMORTAL CURSE?
Witch Way: Immortal Curse is one of my favorite books. I have a huge soft spot for the characters - Ian is one of my top five favorite heroes - I just adore him. I also have a bit of a personal connection to the story.
Immortal Curse is a story about a reluctant psychic and a pissed off ghost. The decrepit one room schoolhouse in the story is based on a place where I went ghost hunting a few years ago with a couple friends. It's an incredibly creepy site, and we got some great orb pictures while we were there. It's also the schoolhouse where my dad and uncles went to school as children. Some of the events in the book are very similar to things that happened during and after our schoolhouse visits. And one of my friends really does have a pink Ouija board. Sadly, there was a shortage of hot Irish ghosts. :D
Was there a character you enjoyed writing the most?
I become easily attached to just about every character I write, but in Immortal Curse, I really felt for Ian. He's been trapped in a half-life for over hundred years and he's decidedly unhappy. He meets a woman who not only sees and hears him, but can feel him, too. This opens up all sorts of erotic possibilities with Emma.
I don't want to give away spoilers, but there are some other people in the story that Ian is deeply protective of and part of the joy in writing Ian came from those scenes. Of course, I'll admit that those are the same scenes that made me cry a bit while writing them.
I don't want to give away spoilers, but there are some other people in the story that Ian is deeply protective of and part of the joy in writing Ian came from those scenes. Of course, I'll admit that those are the same scenes that made me cry a bit while writing them.
What is your writing process like?
I usually come up with a single scene and the characters. It often includes a snippet of the dialogue and the story just evolves from that point on. I get a lot of ideas while in the shower (I have a waterproof notepad!) driving or drifting off to sleep. I take notes whenever an idea hits and I try to write every day. However, what usually happens is that I edit several books, then write a book while panicking that I won't make my deadline. Rinse, repeat. I keep telling myself that it won't always be this way. But so far...it is.
It's all in the name of research, right? What is the most interesting thing you did for research?
I've taken a ten week citizens police academy course which culminated in a 6pm to 6am ride along with a cop. That was fascinating and a little scary at times! I also do a lot of cold calling. Because of my ability to talk to people on the phone (the standing joke is that I "give good phone") I've met some fascinating people. One is a DNR officer who took the time to bring me my family into some old iron mines to explore a bat habitat and also the antique equipment left in the mines. There were some huge holes along the paths that dropped hundreds of feet down - so parts of that trip were a little nerve wracking. I'm not the most graceful person... That research trip will definitely be paying off in the future. :)
What can readers expect next from you?
Hot, primal romance is what I've got coming up! I'm working on the next book in the Witch Way series. I'll have a historical shape shifter book out called Gypsy Wolf at the end of November along with a modern retelling of The Taming of the Shrew - ménage style! All of these books will be published by Resplendence Publishing.

Oh, my, that cover! Added this book to my TBR list!
devries.mcc(at)gmail.com
I am really intrigued after reading the synopsis on goodreads. I am wondering how they physically interact with him being a spirit and her being a human. This sounds very promising.
smittenskitten10@gmail.com
Read and loved A Not Quite Wicked Tale and Maggies Mates. Those were the very first books I read with menage. That was quite the kitchen scene in the first book. Looking forward to reading more of your books! Immortal curse sounds like a good one to start with, pissed off ghost, huh? I'm sure he's hot though:)
mnjcarter@charter.net
I loved the cover to. I have not read any of your books before but I would like to. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
Sadly, I have never had a handsome man come out when we were using a Ouija board either :(
Can't wait for the new books!

Looking forward to seeing how you work the bat cave into a future book, lol:)
Hey Bron, that schoolhouse still creeps me out. And also, if you ever go ghost hunting with pink Ouija board girl again (sans board) I'm coming alone because I think she'd make the ghosts spit-take.
Great interview. I love all of Bron's books. I'm a huge fan of hers. Always have been. ;)
I love it. Just in time for Halloween!I'm definitely digging out my Ouija board.
Wow, that schoolhouse is CREEPY!!! Like nightmareish. Thanks for the giveaway!

You certainly go above and beyond the call of duty for research, but it pays off with great books! :)

Sounds like you've had some great experiences while doing your research. I think I have a good ability at talking to people on the phone as well, so maybe I "give good phone" too:)

Wow! The things you've done for research :-) I admit, the cop course sounds fun but not looking for bats in a cave!
SarahM
smaccall AT comcast.net
I have orbs right in my very own house. My hubby says they are just blobs of cat fur flying through the air, but he's wrong. I can prove by all the fur covering the floors that the cat fur is too heavy to float!!!
Thanks for the contest. Please throw my name in the hat.
Donna

I so totally believe in ghosts! The book sounds great! Thanks for the contest and congratulations.

Great interview. Book sounds great. Thanks for the giveaway and a chance to win some really yummy books.
Carla63@windstream. Et
Never used a Ouija board but if it brings out Hot Irish Ghosts I might be game to try... definitely sounds like fun and I love that it's a spinoff of you're own personal experience! I love visiting "haunted" places, still waiting to see a ghost though!
pypercharmed@yahoo.com
Thanks for the backstory to the story and the great giveaway.

Crystal816[at]hotmail[dot]com
Sounds like a great story! Thanks for the interview and giveaway. scoobeee3@gmail.com
@ elaing8 - Well, we did take in a drunk driver, break up a domestic disturbance and break up a huge party with a bunch of violent drunks. It was...kinda fun. ;)
@ Sarah M - Luckily, I adore bats - however, some of the caves we were in were kinda spooky.
@ Donna - Hey hon! I'm with you. Cat hair is totally too heavy to float.
@ Harlie Reader - I definitely believe after a few irrefutable instances!
@ MandyP - The ghost hunting was a blast!
@ Carol - I like using settings that I know well. For me, it's easier to make them come alive.
@ Carla63 - Thanks so much and thanks for entering!
@ Pyper541 - Ouija boards kinda creep me out a little, but heck, I'd totally do it if I knew I was going to get a hot Irish ghost! :D

@ mariexd - The police course really was fascinating. :)
